As I have mentioned in a previous post, I spent a lot of time working with a designer to create the look and function of our cabinetry throughout the house. I am excited to share that it is all being constructed now. I had the opportunity this week to go to the workshop where everything is being [...] Our house construction is being managed by Ed Z. He is a real pro – on many fronts. In fact, he was previously a PGA Golf Professional! So just as a golfer plans his strategy from tee-off to sinking the ball on the putting green, Ed oversees the big picture and all the details of [...] Developing the floorplan for the house was easy compared to selecting a style and color palette for the interior. I have been fortunate to work with Jeanne Blake of Charlottesville’s Ceiling and Floor Shop, Inc. Jeanne has done a wonderful job of helping me understand my own taste and style and to translate that into [...] It is a busy day today. Workmen are on sight finishing up the framing, completing the masonry and preparing for the plumbing rough-ins. I was surprised to see several men also wielding various tools of communication. The men are marking the territory and making way for the next stage of construction. This is being done in [...] There are several crews laboring on the lot today. From roofers completing the structure, to masons building the fireplace to diggers getting the septic system in place there are many people working hard to build the house. Thank you! It is a somewhat challenging time to be building a home and we did a lot of research in finding the right builder for us. The real estate market uncertainties brought a mixed blessing. We found many builders seeking clients, and yet not all of them were in strong financial positions. Builders in the area were going out of [...] It takes a village to build a house. There are several people that I have been working with in the development of the floorplan and the design of major house features.
